A Wes Anderson-Inspired Engagement Session at Hazel Bird Nature Preserve
There’s something magical about this engagement session, maybe it was that we had all of Hazel Bird Nature Preserve to ourselves, or maybe it was the most magical golden sun. Nestled in the heart of Northumberland County (and the shortest of drives from our home at Acres Ranch!) this serene spot provided the perfect backdrop for Rebecca and Brian's engagement session. As an Ontario wedding photographer, I love letting the couple’s energy inspire the vibe of the shoot, and this one was no exception.
We didn't set out with a specific theme in mind, but as we explored the pathways, tall grasses, and hidden corners of the preserve, a subtle Wes Anderson vibe began to take shape. The soft, but yet striking colours of the landscape, combined with the couple's playful personalities, and a couple of props, created a cinematic atmosphere. It was like stepping into one of his quirky films – a perfect blend of whimsy and nostalgia.
One of my favourite moments was capturing Rebecca and Brian from such a distance, having them head way ahead of me and up a meandering path. This allowed me to capture them when they were away from the obviousness of my camera. They were just being themselves. These little moments are what make each engagement session unique. They’re authentic, raw, and full of personality, which is exactly what I strive to capture in every photo.
If you’re looking for a location that offers both tranquility and beauty, Hazel Bird Nature Preserve is a gem in Northumberland County, just 10 minutes north of Cobourg! It’s a place where nature, love, and a little creative inspiration come together seamlessly!
