Picture it... It’s a hot & humid summer day in Toronto and you’re escaping the city centre on a ferry with the warm wind in your hair to celebrate two people’s unconditional love on the Island, surrounded by friends and family. This was the dreamy day for Ashlynn and Anthony’s colourful Toronto Island wedding!
This summertime wedding last year was all kinds of fun, was unique and it was my most documentary-style wedding of the year. Ashlynn and Anthony wanted me to capture the purity of the day with limited portrait style photos, which isn’t for everyone and that’s A-OKAY! The day truly felt like a fun getaway on Toronto Island with their loved ones and I was welcomed into the group and along for the ride!
The couple looked extremely dapper. Ashlynn's bridal jumpsuit and cape were so incredible – like something I’ve never seen before! Goals! The goal was truly complete once Anthony changed into pink vans for the reception, the perfect pairing with his blue suit.
We arrived on the island where Ashlynn’s sister-in-law had completely transformed the outdoor space into a colourful paradise with lots of personal touches. Family flooded in for the ceremony where the officiant prompted the guests for mindful moment; asking everyone to close their eyes and really take in their surroundings, the feelings and sounds... I thought was super special moment to share with everyone. The day continued with all kinds of non traditional elements...
The ceremony finished off with a round of pickle-back shots for Ashlynn, Anthony and their guests, which, for someone who loves pickles, it was a deliciously hilarious way to kick off their party. Guests then gorged on an abundance of oysters and a taco bar (if you know me, all these things were a huge win!).
As the day progressed into evening, the guests played lawn games and impromptu speeches flowed throughout the party. Family and friends stepped up to the mic to praise the couple and I soon learned that Ashlynn and Anthony seem to surround themselves with very musical people. Their friends and a couple family members came up and played and sang songs which led to Ashlynn and Anthony sharing their first dance. It was such a spontaneously beautiful moment!
Ashlynn, Anthony and their guests partied until the sun went down and after the party wrapped up on the island, the shenanigans didn’t stop! The couple hired their own personal boat to take them and their guests around the Toronto Islands to party into the summer night and take in the gorgeous city skyline.
It truly was the perfect summer wedding in Toronto, filled with laughter and so much love!
What was your favourite part of the whole experience?
Ash - "the ceremony, weird I know! The day gets progressively fuzzier after that (hehe)"
Anthony - "Ripping the vinyl off of the dance floor (moisture in the air and spilled drinks caused it to become a slipping hazard)! Also the boat party after! Fur coats and shiny city lights!"
Why did you chose to celebrate on Toronto Island?
