Carissa + Ben - Scottish Highlands Elopement

Carissa + Ben - Scottish Highlands Elopement

This past October, Ben and Carissa gathered their families for a small, intimate elopement in the Scottish Highlands and it was breathtaking. Read that again, the Scottish Highlands!

Ben, who resides in England and Carissa, who is originally from Canada, planned their wedding pre-Covid and it was supposed to be a grand affair in Muskoka, Ontario. After a few life changes, including a global pandemic but more importantly, the birth of their beautiful baby boy, Ellis, the two decided to elope in the Scottish Highlands – a place they both have an admiration for.

When I arrived at the Glen Dessary Lodge, the vibes were immaculate but unfortunately, the weather was not. It was a classic Scottish day. Cold and rainy but the inside of the lodge was warm and cozy and buzzing with excitement from Carissa and Ben’s families. I was greeted by Ben who was beaming from ear to ear, holding sweet baby Ellis and soon after, I saw Carissa getting ready with the women of the family. She had that beautiful bridal glow!

The whole family seemed very optimistic about the weather and said they were comfortable waiting until the rain cleared, which it eventually did.

Everyone, even Carissa, strapped on their wellies and we headed out to the spot that Ben and I picked out for the ceremony. It was the perfect spot, with rolling hills in the background and believe it or not, a few Stags poking their heads up from their seasonal grazing in the far distance. It was simply idyllic.

The ceremony was short and sweet but so sentimental and heartfelt. Ben and Carissa’s vows were unique and beautifully written and their siblings read two special readings for the couple.

To top off the ceremony, Carissa’s grandfather officiated the marriage and did a wonderful job, his words even had me tearing up.

Following the ceremony, Carissa, Ben, and I took off for some cozy snapshots. The weather continued to cooperate which was fantastic and I was able to capture these lovebirds in the incredible Scottish landscape. The rolling hills and the autumnal colours were jaw-dropping.

This intimate elopement in the Scottish Highlands is one of my all-time favourite ceremonies, as it’s been on my photography bucket list for a few years now.

I’m so thankful that Ben and Carissa trusted me to come along for their special day, even after their wedding plans changed. Thinking of an intimate elopement in the Scottish Highlands? This is your sign to do it.
