A Dreamy Film Engagement Session in North Vancouver:

As a destination photographer, I’m always excited to capture love stories in stunning new locations, and Chelsea and Owen’s engagement session in Deep Cove, North Vancouver, was nothing short of magical! Nestled in the heart of BC’s breathtaking west coast, Deep Cove provided the perfect backdrop for their love story—and the fact that this session was shot almost entirely on film made it all the more special.

From Ontario to the West Coast

Chelsea and Owen recently traded Ontario’s rolling hills for BC’s towering mountains and lush forests, and it’s safe to say they’ve fallen head over heels for the west coast. It’s easy to see why they chose Deep Cove as the location for their engagement photos—this little slice of paradise has become one of their favourite spots to escape, explore, and soak in the beauty of their new home.

Chelsea, being a talented wedding photographer herself, brought an extra layer of meaning to this session. It’s always such an honour (and a bit nerve-wracking!) to photograph someone who’s behind the camera so often. But Chelsea's trust in me to not only capture this special time, but to do it almost completely on film, was amazing. Her and Owen’s easygoing vibe and undeniable chemistry made this session a blast from start to finish!

The Session: Film, Forests, and the Pier

We began the session on Deep Cove’s iconic pier, with its panoramic views of the marina and surrounding mountains. The soft tones and dreamy quality of film photography perfectly captured the gentle waves and blue light reflecting off the water. Chelsea and Owen’s laughter and playfulness were contagious as they danced and leaned into each other, completely at ease, playing with a camcorder and teasing one another.

Next, we wandered into the old-growth forest that towers over Deep Cove, where giant trees and mossy trails created an intimate, almost otherworldly setting. Shooting on film in such a rich, textured environment felt like stepping back in time, and the timelessness of the medium perfectly mirrored Chelsea and Owen’s connection.

Why I Love Film Photography

There’s something incredibly romantic about film photography—the way it captures light, texture, and emotion is unlike anything else. For Chelsea and Owen’s engagement session, shooting on film felt especially fitting. It brought out the natural beauty of Deep Cove and highlighted the authenticity and depth of their relationship.
