Cozy, intimate elopement in the county - Kaili + Erik
Did you know I’ve doubled as a photographer and a witness? That was the case for Kaili and Erik’s cozy intimate elopement in the county! Let me fill you in on their day to get the full picture.
Kaili and Erik were another amazing couple that decided to throw societal norms out the window for their wedding and instead have a very intimate elopement at The Wilk, a gorgeous airbnb in Prince Edward County.
I arrived the morning of and the weather was a little gloomy, but it really added to that cozy vibe that the couple had been dreaming of. The two of them were over the moon to be getting married, allowing them to have zero pressure about how the day was going to loo, and focus solely on how they would feel.
We started the day with Kaili in a cute, white matching set, the two of them sitting in the living room, sipping coffee with their 12-year-old rescue pup, Luke. These two are so serious about their coffee, they even brought their beloved espresso machine with them to the airbnb – as a fellow coffee lover, this was something I seriously respected! It was so special to capture them spending this one-on-one time together before they tied the knot. So after the coffee was sipped, they moved on to a champagne toast while they listened to records and slowly got ready for their intimate ceremony.
The ceremony space outside was perfectly peaceful and Kaili and Erik brought in their personal touches with vow books, gorgeous florals and a homemade arbour. Kaili’s dress was so romantic with a relaxed boho style which paired perfectly with her white booties. Erik chose to go with a comfortable look, sporting a casual jacket and opted to go without a tie – a very underrated look in my opinion.
After the papers were signed, we toasted with champagne and a stunning wedding cake while listening to more tunes. To top off this stunning day, I had the pleasure of working with videographer, Drew Austin from The Lover’s Club! Check out his video of Kaili and Erik's elopement at the bottom of this blog.
I find myself looking back on all my weddings that I capture and how they are all so unique in their own ways. Kaili and Erik’s day was probably one of my favourites beacuse the day was exactly how they wanted it - quiet, intimate and completely their own!
Why elope alone rather than have a wedding with guests?
"We wanted our wedding day to centre around us - and only us. A marriage is a partnership, and for us that means being each other's teammates through it all! Naturally, there are distractions that come with guests, and we wanted to be authentically ourselves the whole time. When picturing our wedding day, we both thought of sleeping in, making breakfast, listening to music, and then getting ready together without any stress or tight schedules... and that's exactly what we got! Super chill vibes- and we can both easily say it was the best day of our lives."
Any advice for others on the fence about eloping?
"We may be biased, but personally we say if it is something you think you want, then GO FOR IT - you will have no regrets. Eloping allows for a special form
of intimacy and magic that cannot be recreated. If you choose the elopement path, invest in a really great photographer (hint hint) and videographer.
The awesome thing about eloping is there really are no rules - you do you!"
